MakerDAO has even begun accepting real-world assets (RWAs) as collateral, an important step towards integrating tokenization with DeFi. The protocol currently has RWAs backing the stablecoin DAI worth more than $680 million.
The integration of tokenization into established institutions is also accelerating. Bank of China investment arm teamed up with UBS to issue the tokenized notes, while JP Morgan uses JPM Coin for instantaneous payments. Even Deutsche Bank plans to offer digital asset custody, underscoring traditional finance's move towards tokenization.
Governments are not standing idle. The Monetary Authority of Singapore, through 'Project Ubin', is exploring blockchain applications for clearing and settling payments and securities. Simultaneously, private companies like Amazon and Grab are partaking in Singapore's digital money pilot scheme, employing tokenized bank deposits.
